Letter to the world – January 2024

My digital artwork “Alzheimer” delves into the intricate complexities of memory, conflict, and the human condition. Drawing inspiration from the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease on the brain, I present a visual exploration that juxtaposes the deteriorating brain cells of an Alzheimer’s patient with the historical context of the wat that started with 7 October massacre.

In this piece, I aim to highlight the unsettling parallels between the erasure of memory in Alzheimer’s patients and the collective amnesia that often plagues societies affected by conflict. Just as Alzheimer’s disease disrupts the cognitive functions of the brain, leading to memory loss and confusion, the 7 October War and its aftermath have left lasting scars on the collective consciousness of all sides involved.

Through the visual representation of deteriorating brain cells, I seek to symbolize the fading recollection of historical events and the selective amnesia that obscures truth and perpetuates conflict. By confronting viewers with the stark reality of cognitive decline and its parallels to societal amnesia, I hope to provoke introspection and foster dialogue about the importance of memory, accountability, and reconciliation in the face of conflict.

“Alzheimer” serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of memory and the imperative to confront uncomfortable truths, lest we succumb to the collective amnesia that perpetuates cycles of conflict and suffering.
